The best travel mug for you depends on how you carry it. A mug that rides in a bag needs a lid that seals; one that lives in a car needs to fit the cup holder; one for a desk can be wide and easy to sip from. The six below include four vacuum-insulated mugs and two battery-heated mugs that hold a set temperature.
Every specification on this page comes from the manufacturer’s own product page, checked on 26 October 2026. We have not used these products ourselves, so the picks are based on published specifications only.
For lids, materials and sizes explained, see our travel mug buying guide and insulated coffee mugs.
How we chose these
- Capacity, lid type and materials published.
- Care instructions stated, including what goes in the dishwasher.
- Cup holder fit stated where the maker gives it.
- Insulated or heated: double-wall vacuum mugs, plus two heated mugs for people whose coffee always goes cold.
MiiR and Fellow describe their mugs as keeping drinks hot or cold “for hours” or “over time” but do not publish a number of hours, so we do not give one. Ember gives battery hours for its heated mugs.

“Not stated” means the maker’s page does not say. Heated mugs keep a set temperature; vacuum mugs slow cooling but do not reheat.
1. MiiR Tumbler: for the car and the widest size range
MiiR calls its Tumbler a daily-driver travel tumbler. It is 18/8 food-grade stainless steel with Thermo 3D double-wall vacuum insulation, fits standard car cup holders and comes in six sizes from 6 to 24 oz. The included slide lid is splash-proof rather than leakproof, so it is for cup holders and desks, not the inside of a bag.
- BPA-free; also works with MiiR’s press-fit straw lid, sold separately.
- 6 oz size weighs 0.33 lb (MiiR).
Pros: six sizes; fits cup holders; lifetime warranty.
Cons: splash-proof lid, not leakproof; body is hand wash only.

2. MiiR 360 Traveler: for a bag, with a leakproof lid
The 360 Traveler uses MiiR’s Leakproof 360 Lid: press the center button to sip or pour from any side of the rim, then press again to seal. MiiR sells other lids that fit the same 12 and 16 oz bodies, including a straw lid, a flip lid and a wide-mouth lid.
- 12 oz weighs 0.62 lb (MiiR).
- MiiR warns that liquid can pour from anywhere around the rim when open, so close the lid when not sipping; not for carbonated drinks.
Pros: leakproof, one-handed lid; swappable lids; lifetime warranty.
Cons: only two sizes; MiiR recommends a small brush to clean under the lid button.

3. Fellow Carter Wide Mug (12 oz): for pour-over straight into the mug
The Carter Wide is a desk and walk-around mug rather than a car mug: Fellow says it does not fit most standard cup holders, but it fits most standard drippers and the AeroPress, so you can brew straight into it. It is dishwasher safe. The version on Fellow’s page is the 12 oz Houseplants artist edition.
- Brewer compatibility: most standard drippers and AeroPress (Fellow).
Pros: brew directly into it; wide mouth for sipping and cleaning; dishwasher safe.
Cons: does not fit most cup holders; Fellow’s page for this edition gives few other specs.

4. Fellow Carter Carry Travel Mug: for big capacity and a ceramic interior
Carter Carry pairs double-wall vacuum insulation with what Fellow calls a True Taste ceramic interior, meant to keep coffee free of metallic notes and lingering flavors. It comes in 20 and 32 oz, has a leak-proof, BPA-free plastic lid, fits most car cup holders and is dishwasher safe.
- Body 77 mm diameter with a 61 mm mouth; 258 mm tall with lid (Fellow).
Pros: ceramic-coated interior; largest capacities here; dishwasher safe and leak-proof.
Cons: no small size for a single cup.

5. Ember Travel Mug 2: for a heated mug on the commute
Ember’s Travel Mug 2 is battery-heated: you set an exact drinking temperature between 120 and 145°F, on the mug or in the Ember app, and it holds it for up to 3 hours away from the coaster, or all day on it. Ember rates it IPX7, so it can be submerged up to 1 meter when hand washing.
- In the box: mug, 360 lid, charging coaster and cable (Ember).
- Lid is dishwasher safe.
Pros: holds a set temperature; spill-proof lid; app presets.
Cons: smallest capacity of the travel mugs; needs charging; 1-year warranty.

6. Ember Tumbler 2: for a heated mug that fits the cup holder
Tumbler 2 holds 16 oz in a slim body that Ember says fits car cupholders. A button on the bottom sets one of five temperatures, from 125 to 145°F, without the app, and LEDs show the setting and battery. Ember rates the battery at 3+ hours with the lid on, and the whole tumbler goes on the top rack of the dishwasher.
- Two lids in the box: a leak proof handle lid for carrying and a spill proof sipping lid (Ember).
Pros: heated and dishwasher safe; two lids; no app needed.
Cons: battery life varies with the set temperature and drink, Ember notes; needs its coaster to charge.
